Senate President Names Appointees to Sports Wagering Advisory Board

Senate President Bill Ferguson (D-Baltimore City) on Friday announced his appointments to the newly created Sports Wagering Application Review Commission, which will evaluate companies seeking to enter Maryland’s forthcoming sports betting industry.

Ferguson named Rosie Allen-Herring and Laura Gamble to the commission.

Gamble is the regional president of PNC for Greater Maryland, with more than 30 years experience in the banking industry. She is also a trustee of the Baltimore Community Foundation and Mercy Health Systems; a board member of the Greater Baltimore Committee, Ready at Five, and the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance; and on the board of visitors for the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Allen-Herring is the chief executive officer of United Way of the National Capital Area, with more than 30 years of experience in the areas of corporate finance, strategic leadership, public and private partnerships, corporate philanthropy and community investment. Allen-Herring serves on the board of directors for the Greater Washington Board of Trade, MedStar Health, and WesBanco; and on the boards of trustees at A.T. Still University and Prince George’s Community College Foundation.

“Integrity, expertise, and diversity are critical to building a sports wagering market that is transparent and representative,” Ferguson said in a statement. “Laura Gamble and Rosie Allen-Herring embody those qualities and bring decades of experience that will facilitate equitable and competitive licensure in Maryland.”

Earlier this week, House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones (D-Baltimore County) named Cassandra Stevenson and Frank Turner to the panel.
