The General Assembly session began on Jan. 10 with dire news over projected deficits. It will end Monday with a total eclipse of the sun. Pick your metaphor.

Maryland Matters and several other groups are cosponsoring the U.S. Senate forum, which will focus on environmental issues and preserving democracy.

Candidates will primarily be asked to address issues related to climate and the environment, as well as democracy and civic engagement — with an emphasis on young voters.

There are power couples all over this state. The people on our annual list of Md. power couples are generally celebrities in the small, odd-ball world of state politics.

Legislative sessions are by their nature very unpredictable — and this one seems harder to game out than most. Which means any one of the 188 lawmakers are poised to make a difference.
