Perez, Pelosi to Headline Events in Md.

Maryland is not a swing state politically.

It does not host an early presidential primary in 2020. There aren’t likely to be any competitive congressional elections here next year.

But Maryland still gets attention from national political leaders from time to time — in part, because there is a lot of money to be raised here, and in part, well, because some of them are from here.

So it will be over the next couple of months.

On Aug. 18, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez will be headlining a house party for the Talbot County Democratic Forum in Easton. And on Nov. 2, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — who, of course, grew up in Baltimore — is the main speaker at the annual fundraising gala for the Maryland Democratic Party.

The theme of the latter event is “celebrating diversity in democracy.” It will be held at Martin’s East, the giant catering hall in Middle River.
