Harford County Executive Barry Glassman (R) announced Thursday that Lawrence A. Richardson Jr., the top lobbyist for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, will join his administration as a policy director, responsible for state and federal legislative affairs. Richardson starts his new gig on Monday.
Richardson has worked in government affairs for more than three decades, including more than 20 years with State Farm Insurance Cos., representing the insurance giant before the Maryland, Baltimore City and District of Columbia governments. Prior to his position with State Farm, Richardson worked as a staff attorney with BlueCross BlueShield of Maryland for 10 years, five of those years as counsel for the Office of Government Affairs.
Richardson has served as the vice president of government affairs for the Maryland Chamber since October 2016.
This is not Richardson’s first position in Harford County, where he lives. Since 2017, he has served as one of Glassman’s appointees on the Harford County EMS Standards Advisory Board, which makes recommendations for emergency medical services in the county.
“I have worked closely with Larry over the years, including my service in the Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate,” Glassman said in a statement. “He is a Harford County resident, and he will be an effective advocate for the citizens of our county.”
