The Maryland comptroller’s office will resume collection activities on Aug. 16, Comptroller Peter V.R. Franchot (D) said this week.
An emergency pause on comptroller collection activities is set to phase out on Aug. 15, and tax officials will resume a variety of auditing and tax-collecting activities the next day, according to a release from Franchot.
Some taxpayers may receive notifications before Aug. 16 if legal action is required earlier than that date, according to the release.
“My office will continue to work with individual and business taxpayers who continue to feel the lingering effects of the pandemic,” Franchot said in a statement. “I’m encouraged that Maryland’s high vaccination rates could help us emerge from the pandemic, but for many, COVID-19 took a heavy toll on their bottom lines that will take a long time from which to recover.”
