Trone Headed For Coveted Committee Assignment in 117th Congress

Rep. David J. Trone is headed to a coveted seat on the House Appropriations Committee in the 117th United States Congress.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Thursday that Trone has been nominated for appointment to the committee for the upcoming session.

Trone (D), who represents parts of Montgomery County and Western Maryland, now serves on the Education and Labor Committee as well as the Foreign Affairs Committee. He would become the third Marylander on the powerful Appropriations panel.

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), who is set to become chair of Appropriations in January, issued a statement welcoming Trone and other new members to the committee.

“We have our work cut out for us in the 117th Congress, and I am confident my colleagues … are up to the task,” DeLauro said. “Each of them has a proven track record of never shying away from a fight on behalf of hard-working families. Their strong voices and unwavering commitment to creating opportunities will be an invaluable addition to the Appropriations Committee.”

There are still a few formalities before the committee assignment becomes final. Thursday’s announcement was based on nominations made by the House Democratic Steering Committee; the full House Democratic Caucus will make the final approval. Trone is one of six Democratic members nominated to join Appropriations.

Maryland Reps. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D) and Andrew P. Harris (R) are currently members of the Appropriations Committee. In the next Congress, Ruppersberger will be the 10th most senior Democrat on the 53-member panel.
