A leading Democrat slams the bill for trying to solve a ‘non-existent problem.’

Decision comes as Maryland legislation would allow undocumented immigrants to purchase insurance off of the state’s health care marketplace.

The Maryland Senate approved the ‘Access to Care Act’ on a party line vote of 34-13. With the House version of the bill already approved, the legislation is in good position to make its way to the governor.

If HB 728 becomes law, the bill would prompt the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange to apply for a federal waiver in order to let undocumented migrants use the exchange.

The bill’s failure was expected — and sought by — some immigration advocacy groups and Latino lawmakers, who criticized the White House and their fellow Democrats for giving up too much in negotiations.

Four House Republicans joined all the Democrats who were present to scotch the impeachment resolution — for now.
