Sen. Cassilly Jumps Into Race for Harford County Executive

Sen. Robert G. Cassilly (R) filed paperwork Tuesday to run for Harford County executive, becoming the second Republican in the race to replace the term-limited incumbent, Barry Glassman (R).

“While I have enjoyed representing Harford County in the Maryland State Senate for the past seven years, I know that we need strong leadership right here at home for our families, communities, and businesses,” Cassilly said in a statement. “My proven record of experience and leadership combined with my strong conservative views makes me the right person to help advance Harford County while maintaining the traditional values and rural character of our county’s heritage.”

Cassilly, 62, is an attorney and Iraq War veteran with an array of political experience, including stints on the Harford County Council, as mayor of Bel Air, and as chairman of the Harford County Republican Central Committee. His family has lived in Harford County for over 200 years.

In Annapolis, Cassilly has been a vocal member of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, where he has pushed anti-crime measures and questioned many Democratic proposals.

“From working to make our streets safer, to protecting the interests of seniors and children, to voting against tax increases, to bringing state funds to improve Harford communities, I am the only candidate with experience advocating and leading for our residents at the municipal, county, and state levels,” Cassilly said.

Earlier this month, Billy Boniface, a longtime adviser to Glassman and former county council member, entered the GOP race for county executive.
