Running or Not, Ben Jealous Will Be Cruising

We don’t know yet if former NAACP president and erstwhile Democratic gubernatorial nominee Benjamin T. Jealous is going to run for mayor of Baltimore in 2020. He expects to announce his decision shortly after Labor Day.

But we do know where Jealous will be in mid-December: On a Caribbean cruise.

The Nation magazine, which organizes an annual cruise for readers to hear speeches from an array of progressive leaders, announced Tuesday that Jealous will be among the panelists. He’ll be joining such lefty luminaries as Zephyr Teachout, Joan Walsh, Victor Navasky and Nation Editorial Director and Publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel.

“Our extraordinary lineup of speakers will lead vibrant conversations about Election 2020, the fight for a Green New Deal, the battles over the courts, the future of reproductive rights, the fate of the Democratic Party, and the state of the progressive movement, among much more,” an email solicitation for the cruise reads.

The seven-night cruise departs from Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 8, and is scheduled to make stops at Half Moon Cay, Bahamas; Falmouth, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico, among other places.

Ticket prices range from $1,500 to $8,700, according to the solicitation.
