Rep. Jamie B. Raskin (D-Md.) and his wife, former deputy Treasury secretary Sarah Bloom Raskin, announced Thursday evening that their 25-year-old son, Thomas Bloom Raskin, a student at Harvard Law School, has died.
No cause of death was provided.
“Tommy was pure magic,” the family said in a statement. “His brilliance and compassion knew no bounds. He passionately loved his family, friends, and animals, and was devoted to the cause of the global poor. We are devastated and demolished to be without him.”
The younger Raskin grew up in Takoma Park and attended local schools, including Montgomery Blair High School. He was a graduate of Amherst College and was in his second year at Harvard Law.
In addition to his parents, Raskin is survived by his sisters Hannah and Tabitha, his grandparents Arlene Bloom and Lynn Raskin and several other relatives.
A statement released by the congressman’s office said, “The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and love from neighbors, constituents, and friends but asks everyone to observe strict COVID-19 protocols during this time of grief.”
Information on funeral and memorial service arrangements will be released in the future.
