David Rodich, the executive director of Service Employees International Union Local 500 and a major political player in Maryland, is retiring at the end of the year.
Rodich, who spent 42 years working for SEIU, announced his retirement on Facebook Friday. He began, he said, working for Local 399 in Los Angeles, and later worked for the national union. He has been with Local 500, which represents workers in Maryland and Washington, D.C., for 20 years.
Rodich has also been involved in a host of political causes. Most recently, he was chairman of the group Committee for Montgomery, which aims to promote Montgomery County’s agenda in Annapolis.
“While I’m leaving a job, my commitment and dedication to our movement remains strong,” Rodich wrote. “I will find ways to continue to serve because there remains so much to be done.”
