Former Maryland attorney general Douglas F. Gansler (D) has a new campaign manager for his 2022 run for governor.
On social media posts Thursday, Jay Satterfield, who had been working for a New York-based Democratic consulting firm, announced that he was “excited beyond measure” to land a gig running Gansler’s campaign.
Satterfield replaces Colin A. Curtis, a former aide to the late state Senate president Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D), who was hired to run the campaign in the spring but departed a few months later.
According to his LinkedIn page, Satterfield was the campaign manager for a city council campaign in New York City earlier this year, and was a regional organizer for the Virginia Democratic Party in 2020 focusing on the re-election of U.S. Rep. Elaine Luria. He also worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as a field director in South Carolina.
Meanwhile, Maryland Matters has learned that Maryland Commerce Secretary Kelly M. Schulz, the establishment favorite in the Republican race for governor, has hired Hunter Mullins to be her campaign manager.
Mullins, who has been on the job since May, worked most recently as political director for then-Arizona Sen. Martha McSally (R) in her unsuccessful bid for a full term last year. He has also worked for the Republican Governors Association, the Republican National Committee, the Colorado GOP and U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.).
Schulz’s campaign has not put out a news release since she announced her candidacy in mid-April. Her campaign is being buttressed by Strategic Partners & Media and Red Maverick Media, two firms that worked for the campaigns of her boss, Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. (R).
