Former Sun Reporter Nitkin Launches Strategic Communications Venture

David Nitkin, the former high-profile Baltimore Sun reporter and editor who went on to a varied career in politics, policy and advocacy, has launched a strategic communications platform to handle his various clients and interests.

New Line Strategy is already working on a variety of projects, Nitkin said in a social media announcement this week.

This includes “taking more of a hands-on role” in Baltimore Fishbowl, the news and culture website in which he has an ownership stake; working with Margrave Strategies, the regional development firm headed by former Howard County executive Ken Ulman (D) and former Baltimore Development Corporation president Bill Cole; and serving as an external and community affairs consultant for Howard County General Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Nitkin worked most recently as chief of staff at Howard County General, and also worked for Ulman in Howard County and for Attorney General Brian E. Frosh (D). He had a variety of reporting and editing roles during a decade at the Sun.

Nitkin said that for marketing and communications work, New Line would partner with M. Harris & Co., a firm headed by a former Sun colleague, Melissa Harris.

The new venture is a full-time concern that Nitkin said would enable him to juggle his various passions. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s really interesting,” he said.
