Editor’s Note: Giving Back — and Getting More — on Giving Tuesday
Dear Maryland Matters reader,
This Giving Tuesday, please help us give back.
Last week, we wrote about a troubling new report that the number of Marylanders experiencing food insecurity nearly doubled during the pandemic to more than 1 million people.
In addition to reporting on the issues, Maryland Matters is also committed to giving back to our community. Last week we also launched our third annual food drive.
For every donation made to our nonprofit news site, our staff and board members will personally donate food and personal care products to three Maryland food banks.
As a nonprofit, we rely on the generous support of people like you.
And we’re so grateful!
Please know that your tax-deductible contribution to Maryland Matters before Dec. 31 will be doubled, thanks to a matching grant.
I know you’re busy. So please consider making a contribution now, while it’s on your mind. It will take you just a few moments, but your impact will be lasting.
Your contribution will go right to work to fund our reporting. No Maryland Matters funds will be used for the food drive.
Thank you for supporting our nonprofit newsroom and our third annual food drive.
Fondly,
Danielle E. Gaines

P.S. Cereal and soup. Pasta and peanut butter. Toothbrushes and shampoo. These are among the items Maryland Matters staff and board members are buying — with money from their own pockets — to donate to Marylanders in need.
It’s our way of showing appreciation for your support of our nonprofit newsroom. Our food drive runs through Dec. 10. Thank you!
