Add Catherine Forbes to the list of Democrats seeking to replace Del. Steven W. Lafferty (D-Baltimore County) when he resigns next month to take a job with Baltimore County Executive John A. “Johnny O” Olszewski Jr. (D).
Forbes is a longtime Towson-area community and education activist who is a founding member of the group Towson Families United. She has spent the past five years as a mediation coordinator and law clerk at the Baltimore County Orphans’ Court.
Forbes’ interest in seeking the appointment was first reported in a Facebook post late Sunday night by Bryan P. Sears of The Daily Record. She joins Baltimore County Young Democrats President Henry Callegary as declared candidates in the race.
The Baltimore County Democratic Central Committee will recommend an appointment to replace Lafferty, and Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. (R) gets to make the pick.
Forbes and Callegary are both well-known and politically plugged-in among local Democrats. Both will line up powerful supporters. And with insiders making the recommendation, it looks to be a competitive race.
