Del. Saab to Seek Reelection Rather Than Run for County Executive

Del. Sid Saab (R-Anne Arundel).

Del. Sid Saab (R) announced Monday night that he plans to seek a third term in the House of Delegates rather than run for Anne Arundel County executive.

In a Facebook post, Saab, who publicly contemplated a county executive bid for several months, said that even though he is vehemently opposed to the administration of County Executive Steuart Pittman (D), he believes he can best serve his constituents by remaining in the House.

“This special session of the General Assembly has again highlighted the importance of effective, aggressive representation for our county in the state legislature,” Saab wrote. “After 7 years of fighting for our shared principles in Annapolis, from lower taxes to supporting public safety to advancing our children’s education, I’ve concluded the best way for me to keep serving our great county is in the General Assembly.”

The 33rd District, which as currently drawn includes Severna Park, Millersville, Crofton, Davidsonville and most of the Broadneck peninsula, is potentially competitive territory that is represented in the House by two Republicans — Saab and newly appointed Del. Rachel Muñoz — and a Democrat, Del. Heather A. Bagnall.

“For many months, I’ve discussed a run for Anne Arundel Executive with my family, friends and political supporters,” Saab wrote. “I believe that Anne Arundel can and must do better than the failed tax and spend policies of the Pittman Administration. I’m committed to changing Anne Arundel for the better.”

Saab pledged to support the winner of the Republican primary for county executive, which currently features County Councilmember Jessica Haire, former Del. Herbert McMillan, and business consultant Chris Jahn.
