Maryland Matters Launches 2021 Food Drive. You Can Help Us Give Back!

Through Dec. 10, for each contribution we receive, our staff and board members will spend their own money to donate to Maryland food banks. Initial donations were gathered at a team picnic. Maryland Matters photo.

If it weren’t for you — our readers and supporters — Maryland Matters would not exist.

That’s a fact we remember every day.

You see, Maryland Matters is a nonprofit. We survive and thrive thanks to the generosity of readers and charitable foundations.

We are grateful and honored to be the Maryland news site you depend on.

And we’re happy to be able to give back with our third annual Maryland Matters food drive.

Once again, the Maryland Matters staff and board will donate food — bought with money from their own pockets — to Maryland food banks for every financial contribution you make through December 10.

We began putting together our nonperishable food contributions early this year. At a staff appreciation picnic last month, we loaded up a picnic table with foods like cereal and soup, pasta and peanut butter. It’s all part of what we’ll give to the Maryland Food Bank in Baltimore; Manna Food Center in Gaithersburg; and Delmarva Community Action Center in Cambridge.

But we’re just getting started.

In past years, we’ve bought and donated hundreds of pounds of cans and boxes of food. We hope to do even better this year.  We’ll keep you advised of our progress.

Please keep in mind that no Maryland Matters funds will be used to buy the food. Every tax-deductible contribution you give to Maryland Matters will go right to work in reporting the news about Maryland.

And here’s a bonus: Every contribution you make, up to $1,000, will be doubled thanks to a generous matching grant.

Thanks again for your loyal readership and support — and for giving us the chance to serve our community.
