Hogan Appoints New Deputy Chief of Staff

Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. (R) appointed Alexandra “Ali” Keane as his deputy chief of staff for labor, health, education, and human services Wednesday.

Diane Croghan, Hogan’s current deputy chief of staff, is leaving the administration to become the vice president of community engagement and chief of staff for the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Croghan became Hogan’s deputy chief of staff after Tiffany P. Robinson was appointed as the state’s secretary of labor in 2019.

Keane is currently a deputy legislative officer in the governor’s office, and oversees legislative matters for a variety of state agencies and the University System of Maryland. She worked in the Hogan administration as a special assistant to the deputy chief of staff and legislative aide before becoming a legislative officer, according to a press release.

“Ali has been a valued member of our administration since day one, and I have the utmost confidence that she will continue to be an incredible asset in this new position,” Hogan said in a statement. “I want to thank Diane for her dedicated service to our state, particularly over the past year as she played a leading role in our statewide response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Keane said in the release that she was honored to be appointed deputy chief of staff and looks forward to “continuing our work of changing Maryland for the better.”

Keane’s new appointment is effective June 21.
