Alanah Davis: Women’s History Month Chat With Kimberly Jones and Gilly Segal

What’s up, y’all!

So I interviewed two really down-to-earth authors named Gilly Segal and Kimberly Jones, thanks to the nonprofit educational group Maryland Humanities.

Maryland Humanities is hosting them officially for a talk titled “Why It Matters: Reckoning with Race. Equity. Allyship.” on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., where they’ll discuss their best-selling book, “I’m Not Dying With You Tonight,” a young adult novel inspired by the unfair death of Freddie Gray right here in Baltimore.

In their conversation they’ll touch on some of today’s most pressing topics — the recent resurgence of our country’s reckoning with racial inequity, a video that went viral after the death of George Floyd, and reaching beyond platitudes to work together on issues of common concern. The conversation will be moderated by Christine Platt, author and managing director of the Antiracist Research & Policy Center at American University. The conversation will be followed by Q&A.

In their conversation with me, Kim and Gilly talked about hair color, stagecoaches, shotguns, self-care, and more for this special Women’s History Month interview. You’ll have to watch the video. Happy Women’s History Month!

Click here for more information on their Tuesday evening program. It’s free — though registration is necessary.
