Ex-Union Operative McLaurin Joins Consulting Firm

Mark McLaurin, the former political director of SEIU Local 500 and veteran campaign strategist, has joined Indigo Strategies, a political consulting, media and digital firm, as a senior consultant.

McLaurin has been a campaign operative for 25 years ― the last 15 as a senior-level strategic adviser on electoral and issue advocacy/ballot measures across the U.S.

He spent 11 years as political director at SEIU Local 500, Maryland’s largest Service Employees International Union local, and eight years on the executive committee of SEIU’s Maryland/DC State Council, which coordinates all direct and independent expenditure political efforts across the DMV region.

McLaurin is an alumnus of the Catholic University of America, a graduate of Human Rights Campaign’s Youth College for Campaign Training and the Brown-Tully Institute for Democratic congressional campaign managers, and served on the faculty of multiple Wellstone Institutes.

Aside from his experience with organized labor, McLaurin has specialized in working directly in contested Democratic primaries advising women, LGBTQ political contenders, and candidates of color.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Mark’s background, experience and, particularly, passion for progressive candidates and causes on our team,” said Walter Ludwig, Indigo’s managing partner and chief creative officer.

McLaurin in a statement praised Indigo Strategies for being a firm “at the cutting edge of making sure we win!”

Indigo Strategies specializes in working with progressive candidates and causes and labor organizations. The firm has offices in Washington, D.C.; Baltimore, Harrisburg, Pa., and Brussels.
