At least two Maryland educators are on the list of possible contenders to become President-elect Joe Biden’s secretary of Education, according to published reports ― and another leading contender used to work here.
The Washington Post reported Monday that an education advocacy group called Democrats for Education Reform is promoting a few educators for the job, including Sonja B. Santelises, CEO of the Baltimore City Public Schools, and William R. Hite Jr., the superintendent of the Philadelphia Public Schools. Hite previously was superintendent of the Prince George’s County Public Schools.
Education Week also mentioned the Democrats for Education Reform list ― and Santelises and Hite. But it also floated the possibility of Freeman Hrabowski, the president of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, taking the job.
