Shamoyia Gardiner Joins Strong Schools Maryland as Deputy Director

Strong Schools Maryland, a grass-roots organization dedicated to equal education for all Maryland students, is adding a new member to its team.

Shamoyia Gardiner will join Strong Schools Maryland as a deputy director, according to an announcement Wednesday.

“Shamoyia is a fierce advocate for educational equity and brings a wealth of valuable experience as our organization continues to grow and evolve,” Joe Francaviglia, executive director of Strong Schools Maryland, said in a statement.

“Shamoyia will be spearheading our policy portfolio to ensure every Maryland student has access to a world-class education system.”

Before joining Strong Schools Maryland, Gardiner was the education policy director for Advocates for Children and Youth, an independent organization that advocates for Maryland’s children and families. She had also been a co-chair for the Coalition for the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.

Strong Schools Maryland was a leading advocate in Annapolis for the blueprint, an education reform plan that passed in the General Assembly but was vetoed by Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. (R).

“I am excited to join this team at this critical moment,” Gardiner said in a statement. “The work of making sure our public schools truly serve all students has never been more important.”
