The Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Baltimore-based non-profit with the mission of improving the lives of children, adolescents and adults with disorders and injuries of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system, announced Tuesday that it has hired Emily T. Arneson as director of government relations.
Arneson will represent the institute at the state, federal and local levels and will also work to ensure corporate policies align with government laws, regulations and standards.
Arneson has more than a decade of experience in government affairs and policy, working most recently as a government relations consultant for Alexander & Cleaver, the Annapolis lobbying firm that represents Kennedy Krieger at the State House.
Arneson has also worked for the Hogan administration, as assistant director of policy and government affairs at the Maryland Department of Commerce and as a legislative officer at the Maryland Department of Planning.
Additionally, she has worked as a legislative assistant at the giant law and lobbying firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, as a regional political coordinator for the Republican National Committee, and as a legislative correspondent for the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill.
“Emily’s knowledge of Kennedy Krieger Institute, and her expertise in government affairs, is a valuable asset for the Institute as we expand our reach and relationships with elected officials and policymakers in local, state and federal government,” said Bradley Schlaggar, president and CEO of Kennedy Krieger. “Emily will play a critical role in helping broaden awareness and understanding of the critical impact the Institute has on the lives of the children and young adults we serve, and how that impact can further key government goals.”
