Funeral Arrangements Set for Ex-Sen. Currie

Funeral arrangements have been set for the late state Sen. Ulysses S. Currie (D-Prince George’s), who died on Dec. 27 at the age of 84.

Currie, who spent 32 years in the General Assembly before retiring at the end of 2018, will lie in state Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Alexander S. Pope Funeral Home in Forestville.

A celebration of life for the former chairman of the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee will take place Saturday at the Allen Chapel AME Church in Southeast Washington, D.C., beginning with a viewing from 9-10:30 a.m., followed by a service by his Omega Psi Phi Inc. fraternity brothers at 10:30 a.m. and a full service at 11 a.m.

Internment, with full military honors (Currie spent three years in the Army), will take place Sunday at the Gravely Family Cemetery — named for his wife’s family — in Martinsville, Va.
