A Big Thank You!

Thank you!

You came through.

After two months of encouraging, coaxing, cajoling and otherwise hoping to inspire you, our loyal readers, to contribute to our nonprofit news site, you came through.

We are deeply grateful and profoundly moved by your generosity.

And we are honored to carry on the work you make possible – to provide original news and commentary about our state. To provide you with the information you need to hold elected officials and others in power accountable.

We were fortunate this year to have two generous matching grants that doubled contributions from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31. NewsMatch, a national nonprofit that supports independent news websites like Maryland Matters, is funded by the Democracy Fund, the Knight Foundation and others. The Keith Haller Memorial Matching Grant was created by the friends and family of the late Keith Haller, a co-founder of Maryland Matters and a longtime communications and political professional.

Together, these grants promised to match contributions from our readers in the last two months of 2019 – and we are pleased to report that we wildly exceeded our fundraising goals! Our hats are off to you for going the distance on behalf of the critical work of democracy: informing people about what is happening in their state and their communities.

You came through for us. As the first day of the General Assembly draws near, we are ready and eager to come through for you, with coverage you won’t find elsewhere.

Thank you for donating to our nonprofit news site so we can keep doing what we’re doing.

Please consider each news story another affirmation of our gratitude to you as we move into this new year and this new decade.

As Keith Haller would have said, Onward and Upward!

Our heartfelt thanks, and Happy New Year!

— Josh Kurtz and the Maryland Matters team
