Sen. Washington Goes to Iowa for Campaign Manager
State Sen. Mary L. Washington (D-Baltimore City) on Tuesday tapped a veteran of Iowa politics to lead her campaign for mayor.
Washington announced she had hired Monica Biddix to serve as campaign manager. Biddix worked most recently as the Iowa state director for the presidential campaign for former Maryland Rep. John K. Delaney (D) — and prior to that was communications director for Delaney’s Iowa operation.
Prior to that, she was the campaign manager for an unsuccessful Democratic gubernatorial contender in Iowa in the 2018 election cycle, and held several other political posts in the Hawkeye State as well, including communications director for the Iowa Democratic Party.
“Having worked in politics for as long as I have, I know that compassionate, trustworthy, and driven public officials like Mary are not as common as they should be,” Biddix said in a statement. “It’s a privilege to be a part of a campaign that puts integrity and community at the heart of its mission, and I believe in her passion for bringing change to Baltimore.”
Biddix is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a double-degree in political science and history, and she later received her master’s in history from the College of Charleston.
“I am thrilled to welcome this talented and dedicated woman to our team,” Washington said. “The incredible experience she brings as a manager and communications expert speak to her commitment in engaging the community in an open and honest way.”
