Hogan Announces New Circuit Court Judges, Including Bereano’s Son
The circuit courts of Prince George’s and Washington counties will soon have new judges.
Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. (R) announced Wednesday afternoon that he elevated Prince George’s County District Court Judge Bryon S. Bereano to fill a vacancy on that county’s circuit court. Attorney Andrew F. Wilkinson, a solo practitioner in Washington County, was appointed as a circuit court judge there.
Bereano ― son of Annapolis lobbyist and Hogan ally Bruce C. Bereano ― was first appointed to the District Court by Hogan in 2016. Before that appointment, Bereano worked for Prince George’s county government as an associate county attorney, where he focused on zoning, property maintenance cases and responses to equal employment opportunity complaints.
Wilkinson, whose practice focused on land-use and real estate law, civil litigation and commercial law, has also previously provided family law mediation services for Washington County Circuit Court. Early in his career, Wilkinson worked as a clerk in the county circuit court for multiple judges.
“The appointment of qualified individuals to serve across our state’s justice system is paramount to upholding our responsibilities to the people of Maryland and the rule of law,” Hogan said in a news release. “I have confidence that Mr. Wilkinson and Mr. Bereano will continue to be strong advocates for the law and will serve the citizens of Washington County and Prince George’s County admirably.”
