Raskin’s Legislative Director Joining Major Advocacy Group

The legislative director and chief counsel to U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) is leaving Capitol Hill to join a major progressive think tank and advocacy organization in Washington, D.C.

The Center for American Progress announced Tuesday that William Roberts will become managing director for CAP’s Democracy and Government Reform Program.

Roberts has been Raskin’s legislative director for two years. From 2013 to 2017, he was the federal legislative director at Every Voice, where he worked to advance small-donor elections systems at the municipal, state, and federal levels. From 2011 to 2013, Roberts worked as a legislative assistant for then-Rep. Donna F. Edwards (D-Md.).

“Will’s fluency with many issues from voting rights and elections to oversight and ethics will be a tremendous asset as we look toward the inevitable challenges that the remainder of the Trump presidency and the 2020 elections will bring,” said Neera Tanden, CAP’s CEO and president.

Roberts is a graduate of Howard University and received his J.D. from the Howard University School of Law. He’ll start his new job on March 4 – his late father’s birthday.
