Busch Doles Out New Leadership Assignments

On the day before the start of the General Assembly session, House Speaker Michael E. Busch (D-Anne Arundel) announced changes to leadership positions that will take effect when the legislature gavels in.

Busch announced multiple leadership changes in July, and the latest assignments round out the roster.

On the House Economic Matters Committee, Del. Benjamin Brooks (D-Baltimore County), will be chairman of the Public Utilities Subcommittee. Del. Talmadge Branch (D-Baltimore City), will be chairman of the Alcoholic Beverages Subcommittee, and Del. Ned Carey (D-Anne Arundel) will be Branch’s vice chairman.

House Majority Leader Kathleen Dumais (D-Montgomery) will be chair of the Property & Casualty Insurance Subcommittee; Del. Kris Valderrama (D-Prince George’s), will be chair of the Worker’s Compensation Subcommittee; Del.  Mary Ann Lisanti (D-Harford) will be chair of the Unemployment Insurance Subcommittee; and Del. Cheryl Glenn (D-Baltimore City) will be chair of the Banking & Consumer Protection Subcommittee.

On the Judiciary Committee, committee Vice Chair Vanessa Atterbeary (D-Howard), will be chair of the Public Safety Subcommittee; Del.  Jon Cardin (D-Baltimore County), will be chair of the Civil Law Subcommittee; Del. David Moon (D-Montgomery), will be chair of the Juvenile Law Subcommittee; Del. Jazz Lewis (D-Prince George’s), will be chair, of the Family Law Subcommittee; and Del.  Charles Sydnor III (D-Baltimore County), will be chair of the Criminal Law & Procedure Subcommittee.

Meanwhile, Del. Darryl Barnes (District 25) will chair a new subcommittee in the Ways & Means Committee on Local Revenues. Del. Edith Patterson (D-Charles) will chair the House Protocol Committee; and Del. Marvin Holmes (D-Prince George’s) will assume the role of assistant House majority leader.
