The upset defeat of outgoing Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh (R) is an Annapolis lobbying firm’s gain.
Cornerstone Government Affairs on Monday announced the addition of Bernie Marczyk as vice president. Marczyk comes to the firm having previously been Anne Arundel County’s director of government affairs under Schuh.
“Bernie’s thoughtful analysis helped us build more schools, parks, and roads; provide record school and public safety funding; and improve the quality of life for our citizens,” Schuh said in a statement.
Prior to working for Schuh, Marczyk worked for Ducks Unlimited for seven years as a government affairs representative and then a director/manager of conservation programs. Marczyk started at Ducks Unlimited by overseeing public policy efforts in the Atlantic Region managing federal and state issues and then working on Ducks Unlimited ground conservation delivery from Maryland to Maine.
Marczyk began his career working for then-Congressman Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R), first as legislative assistant on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and then as a policy adviser for Gov. Ehrlich in Annapolis, where he oversaw the legislative and policy efforts of the Departments of Agriculture, Environment, Natural Resources, Planning, and Transportation.
“Bernie has a great reputation, tremendous expertise and excellent relationships inside and outside of government,” said Geoff Gonella, Cornerstone’s president and managing director. “He is a great addition to our established and growing Maryland presence.”
The firm was founded in 2002 in Washington, D.C., and has offices in 10 locations. The Annapolis firm opened in 2015. It is headed by former state Sen. Patrick J. Hogan and seasoned lobbyist Delora Sanchez.
