Grassroots Group’s Lone Md. Endorsement Goes to Candidate Who Works There
Membership has its privileges.
On Monday, a national grass-roots progressive group called Run for Something issued a news release about Hillary Clinton endorsing 19 candidates affiliated with the organization for state and local offices around the country. The lone endorsement in Maryland: Lesley J. Lopez, a Democratic candidate for the House of Delegates in Montgomery County’s District 39.
Lopez just happens to be the organization’s paid communications director.
“Our democracy is in crisis, but I’m optimistic that through building a bench of progressive leaders who put their communities and values first, we will put ourselves back on the path to a fairer, more inclusive America,” Clinton said in a statement released by Run for Something.
Lopez was one of two non-incumbents who prevailed in the June Democratic primary and will be running along with Del. Kirill Reznik (D) for the district’s three House seats.
In a related development, Clinton on Monday endorsed four Democratic candidates for governor across the country – but Maryland’s Benjamin T. Jealous was not among them.
