U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is scheduled to appear at a rally with Maryland congressional hopeful David J. Trone (D) on Saturday, as Democrats mobilize for the home stretch.
Pelosi, a former speaker who could wield the gavel again if her party retakes power Nov. 6, is the “special guest” at a “Take Back the House: Day of Action” rally at Trone’s Potomac headquarters.
Pelosi is a favorite of liberals — and a favorite punching bag on the right — and she and Trone are expected to rev up his supporters before a day of canvassing and door-knocking in the 6th District, which extends from western Montgomery County into the panhandle of Western Maryland.
“Come rally to take back the House with our Blue Wave, then join us to knock on doors and make calls,” reads a flier for the event.
Trone and his main rival, former deputy undersecretary of the Army Amie Hoeber, a Republican, debated twice this week.
The CEO of Total Wine & More, Trone has broken records for personal spending in his two bids for Congress.
Incumbent Rep. John K. Delaney (D) opted not to seek reelection this year so he can focus on his bid for the White House.
