Biden Tops List of Political Celebrities Heading This Way in June
Political celebrities are coming to Maryland in the days ahead, culminating with an appearance by former Vice President Joseph R. Biden at a Democratic unity rally days after the June 26 primary.
But before then, Republicans will dominate the scene, beginning Monday, when Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel will headline a fundraising luncheon for the Maryland GOP. The event is taking place at Ropewalk in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood.

That evening, U.S. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) is the featured attraction at Baltimore County Republican Central Committee’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner. Lee is peddling a new book, “Written Out of History: The Forgotten Founders Who Fought Big Government.”
It’s a look at a handful of individuals, including a former slave and a chief of the Iroquois nation, who participated in the debate over the U.S. Constitution but whose contributions have largely been forgotten.
The Lincoln Day dinner is taking place at the Woodholme Country Club in Pikesville.
One day after the primary, Lee’s Senate colleague, Marco Rubio of Florida, is headlining a fundraiser for state Del. Christian J. Miele (R), who is challenging state Sen. Katherine A. Klausmeier (D) in Baltimore County’s 8th District. The fundraiser is taking place not in Baltimore County but in Potomac, at the home of Sam Malhotra, former chief of staff to Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. (R).
The Maryland Republican Party’s “Drive for Five” — the GOP’s attempt to pick up five state Senate seats, making it harder for the Democratic-led chamber to override Hogan’s vetoes if he’s reelected — runs straight through the 8th District.
And then Biden will headline the Maryland Democratic Party’s post-primary unity event on June 30 at Camden Yards. The Democratic nominees for governor and U.S. Senate will also speak.
“This celebration will set the tone and rally Democrats as we enter the general election to move Maryland forward with strong Democratic candidates across the state,” said state Democratic Chairwoman Kathleen Matthews.
