Busch, Miller Coming to Capitol Hill to Raise Money With Md. Delegation

Maryland House Speaker Mike Busch (D) and Senate President Mike Miller (D) will be on Capitol Hill in early January, raising money with the Democrats in the state’s congressional delegation.

An invitation for the late afternoon event on Jan. 4, at the Capitol Hill office of the lobbying shop Cornerstone Government Affairs, features Miller, Busch, U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin and U.S. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer prominently. It also promises Reps. Anthony Brown, Elijah Cummings, John Delaney, Jamie Raskin, Dutch Ruppersberger and John Sarbanes. It costs a minimum of $1,000 to attend.

Curiously, the invitation, obtained by Maryland Matters, does not mention the state’s other senator, Chris Van Hollen. But an email accompanying the invitation from John Bohanan, a former state legislator and longtime Hoyer aide who now works for Cornerstone Government Affairs, says Van Hollen will also be there.

Cornerstone is a Washington, D.C.-based national lobbying firm with offices in 11 cities. It opened up shop in Annapolis just a couple of years ago, with Bohanan, a senior consultant, former state Sen. P.J. Hogan, and Delora Sanchez, who previously lobbied in Annapolis for the Johns Hopkins Medical System.

Busch is having a fundraiser the next morning in Annapolis, one of more than 70 that lawmakers are holding before the start of the General Assembly session on Jan. 10.
